Moorfields Children's Home

Construction of 2, five bedroom accommodation blocks on the existing playing field of Moorfields Children’s Home site for Derby City Council. The buildings are of traditional construction with masonry walls and a tiled roof.

The buildings are 2 storey in height and have PPC aluminium doors and windows. The foundations are driven concrete piles with reinforced concrete ground beams.  The ground floor is of block and beam construction with precast concrete planks at first floor level.  The roof is formed using pre-fabricated timber trusses. Internally both the ground and first floors have underfloor heating laid within the fibre reinforced floor screeds, the floors are finished with carpet tiles and non-slip vinyl in WC areas.  The internal walls are constructed from concrete blocks with a hard wall plaster finish. The walls are finished with emulsion paint and ceramic tiles in wet areas.

New water, electric and gas services provide water, lighting, power and heating to the buildings.  Externally a garage block of traditional construction matching the accommodation blocks provides parking for 3 vehicles and a store. External landscaping consists of paving slab walk ways and patio areas with tarmac pathways.  Timber panelled fencing provides segregation between the front and rear of the buildings.

A new tarmac surfaced access road has been constructed from the Public Highway to the new buildings. An area of permeable paving in front of the 2 buildings provides surface water drainage, in conjunction with a new surface water drainage pipe connected to the existing main surface water sewer. A new foul drainage system has been installed, connecting the new buildings to the existing foul sewer.
