Carlton Fire Station

Carlton Fire Station

Demolition of existing fire station, site clearance and construction of the new community fire station, incorporating appliance 3 bays, community rooms, gymnasium, offices for support staff, communication facility, kitchen and dining areas, training building and tower together with on-site and off-site car parking , secure cycle storage, fuel pumps and generator.

The building has been specially designed to be energy efficient.   A green sedum roof will help keep the Station cool in summer and warmer in winter, as well as delaying the release of rain water to lessen the impact on drains during flooding. The building is heated via a combination of under floor heating and air conditioning. The community station was fitted out to a high standard internally and the external works comprises concrete, tarmac and block paved areas. We also constructed an independent training house and incorporated rainwater recycling into the drainage scheme to allow the fire fighters to use the stored water for hose practice.

The building achieved an 'Excellent' BREEAM award for fire stations.

“This project was completed on time and within budget, despite considerable site constraints and problems associated with adjoining properties. The Bowmer & Kirkland team showed a professional attitude at all times throughout the contract and also during the defect liability period, where they were extremely reactive to issues raised. I would have no hesitation in recommending B&K as a main contractor for any future projects. ”
