New Print Hall & Warehouse, Belper

New Print Hall & Warehouse

Construction of a new print hall and reel storage area for DS Smith of Belper, to house new printing machine purchased from Uteco in Italy.

The construction comprised steel driven hollow tube piles driven to a depth of approx 25m, filled with limestone and capped off with concrete. These piles were used under the full area of the warehouse and print hall, which totalled an area of 15,887 square feet. The piles were capped off with concrete pile caps and concrete ring beam. We also incorporated precast concrete ring beams to the perimeter. Several pits and trenches had to be accommodated
within the heavily reinforced concrete floor slab to allow fixing of conveyors to distribute the paper coils.

The building was fully clad with composite cladding panels to the walls and roof.

Internally a single storey block built office block was incorporated within the print hall area. Service rooms were also formed in the corner of the print hall. An acoustic wall was formed to separate the print hall and reel storage area via blockwork and acoustic metal framing and plasterboard above the blockwork up to roof level. The building was fully fitted out mechanically and electrically and fire protection was provided via a full sprinkler installation.

Externally we provided a concrete service yard area, tarmac car park and ramp to join the existing yard area to the new area.
