Vehicle Maintenance Facility, Hereford

The site for this new Vehicle Maintenance Facility in Hereford is located adjacent to a recently constructed access road within Rotherwas Industrial Estate. The existing site was a relatively level, unoccupied parcel of land with vegetation and crops at the surface, overall covering an area of 14,546 m2. The recently constructed access road is present along the southern boundary, together with a hammer head which provides access into the new development and protected by a series of concrete in-filled sewer rings. Part of the northern boundary is defined by the premises of an Engineering Company and partly by a slope which rises up to a roadway. There is currently no physical western or eastern boundary to the development plot, adjacent to which is further unoccupied agricultural land.

The design and construction of this new facility includes a new 3-storey depot / offices and amenities, which will comprise of Offices, Meeting Rooms, Lobby, Canteen, Locker Room, Male &
Female WC, Shower Room, Stores Area and Numerous Workshops.

The development also includes a Separate 3 Bay vehicle maintenance facility containing the following;

•   Wall mounted waste oil reel dispensers based on Samoa 506 series 6m autovac reels
•   Wall mounted oil reel dispensers based on Samoa 502 series 10-13m reels
•   Wall mounted Air reel dispenser based on Samoa 504 series 15m reels
•   New 7 ton pillar lifts (4 number) portable
•   Steel workbenches
•   High level exhaust extractor fixed duct

Together with associated external hardstandings, landscaping, fencing and drainage.

Foundations were reinforced ground beams and a reinforced concrete suspended slab constructed off driven concrete square piles. The structure was steel framed with precast concrete floors. The external yards are used to store electrical distribution equipment and to store vehicles. The site has a high degree of environmental measures to prevent contamination from the equipment entering the drainage systems and water courses. Full retention interceptors and cut off valves are on the foul and storm systems.

The facility was design and has achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating.
